Transit Alternatives to Mid-County Highway Extended

Taking Action on Our Mission

We are a coalition of citizens and organizations who have awakened to the threat of proposed Mid-county Highway Extended (known as M-83) being built through the heart of our communities.  We are taking action to halt that threat by:
  • Supporting  public transit in becoming the priority means of travel through: 1) building the Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT); 2) initiating Rapid Transit System (RTS) throughout Montgomery County; 3) increasing MARC Train to full passenger service, and; 4) finishing Metro’s Purple Line.
  • Calling upon environmental/climate change organizations, citizen-based affiliates, faith communities, home/condo associations, and elected officials for their support, presence and wisdom in advocacy and community organizing.
  • Unifying communities, neighbors and organizations along proposed alternative routes #4, #8, and #9 to speak with one voice in opposition to building Mid-County Highway Extended (M-83).
  • Petitioning elected officials* to: 1) accelerate road improvements and proposed transit projects, and; 2) eliminate Mid-County Highway Extended (M-83) from Montgomery County’s Master Plan of Transportation.   *Montgomery County Council Members, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commissioners, and Montgomery County State Legislators
